In addition to the core services telematics can provide to Intelligent Transport Systems, the technology can also be used to reduce the impact transport has on the environment.

Trakm8's telematics solutions can be utilised to deliver policy objectives beyond those allied purely with delivering improved transport services. When intelligent transport systems have been implemented, tangible benefits are realised not only by those using the road systems, but also by those who live and work in the area managed.

Trakm8 have worked in partnership with the Technology Strategy Board on projects that help to monitor traffic flow in London and York. Also Trakm8 have developed a complex algorithm with Imperial College London and the TSB to accurately measure CO₂ emmissions. Trakm8 are the only vehicle telematics company to be able to accurately measure emissions and not rely on maufacture's estimates.
